Dr. Alex Seife

I am a clinical psychologist specializing in individual and couples therapy. I also co-lead the group therapy program at Vienna Praxis.

My approach to therapy is rooted in a relational perspective, where I create a safe and collaborative environment in order to promote curiosity, insight, and growth. I maintain that an increased awareness of one’s internal world allows for shifts in one’s behaviors, emotions, and ways of relating to others. While I primarily rely on a psychodynamic perspective, I do not believe that there is a one-size-fits-all approach to therapy; I often rely on techniques rooted in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), Somatic Experiencing Therapy, and Gestalt Therapy.

I earned my doctorate from Long Island University – Post and completed my pre-doctoral training at Mount Sinai/Elmhurst Hospital. I have also held clinical positions at the William Alanson White Institute, The Family Health Center at NYU Langone, the Institute for Psychoanalytic Training and Research, and the Long Island University Psychological Services Center. In these settings I worked with culturally diverse individuals across the lifespan. My clinical expertise includes working with anxiety, depression, trauma, bereavement, OCD, relationship issues, personality disorders, medical comorbidities, and interpersonal difficulties. In addition to my professional training in psychology, my background in theater has influenced my interactive approach and my appreciation of the different roles we play in relationships. I strive to maintain a culturally-informed framework and diverse practice, including individuals who identify as LGBTQIA and BIPOC.
